Re: THE ACADEMY NEEDS YOUR HELP TO STRENGTHEN BOTTLE ROCKET LAWS
Bottle rockets pose a serious risk of eye injury, especially around the Fourth of July. The Academy is working with state ophthalmological societies to gather data on bottle rocket injuries to enact legislation to restrict the use of these fireworks in states with the weakest laws on bottle rockets. Your cooperation and commitment to patient safety is greatly appreciated.
The Academy is asking ophthalmologists in 19 states with lax bottle rocket laws to make sure to report bottle rocket injuries to the US Eye Injury Registry during the week prior to and following the Fourth of July. The US Eye Injury Registry (USEIR) Initial Report form (PDF) and Six Month Follow-up form (PDF) are available for download. Remember to specify “Bottle Rocket” for the description of the injury source. The data must be submitted to USEIR online at http://www.useironline.org.
Thank you for your participation.
